Kasmin is pleased to announce Stuart Davis in Havana, an exhibition of ten evocative early watercolors painted in 1920 following Stuart Davis’ brief yet formative trip to Havana, Cuba, where the artist convalesced after contracting Spanish flu. Curated by Priscilla Vail Caldwell in collaboration with Earl Davis and the Estate of Stuart Davis, the exhibition will be on view at 297 Tenth Avenue from June 30–August 13, 2021. This is the second solo exhibition of work by the artist at Kasmin since the gallery began representing the Estate in 2018, and the first to focus on Davis’ time in Cuba. In addition to the suite of paintings, this exhibition presents a trove of archival material documenting the artist’s trip including postcards, lottery tickets, and the painter’s passport.

Kasmin a le plaisir d’annoncer Stuart Davis in Havana, une exposition de dix aquarelles évocatrices peintes en 1920 à la suite du voyage bref mais formateur de Stuart Davis à La Havane, Cuba, où l’artiste était en convalescence après avoir contracté la grippe espagnole. Organisée par Priscilla Vail Caldwell en collaboration avec Earl Davis et la succession de Stuart Davis, l’exposition sera présentée au 297 Tenth Avenue du 30 juin au 13 août 2021. Il s’agit de la deuxième exposition personnelle de l’artiste à Kasmin depuis que la galerie a commencé à représenter la succession en 2018, et la première à se concentrer sur le séjour de Davis à Cuba. En plus de la suite de peintures, cette exposition présente un trésor de matériel d’archives documentant le voyage de l’artiste, notamment des cartes postales, des billets de loterie et le passeport du peintre.
