Jamaica Flux 2021 will explore the interconnection of Jamaica’s history, economic development, cultural heritage, and diversity to conceptualize topical, socially engaging projects. The exhibition will bring together artists, curators, scholars, local residents, community leaders, developers, and politicians to build on the cultural legacy of Southeast Queens and to catalyze the transformative power of the visual arts, generating creative responses to the anxieties and tensions of our present moment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, JCAL will keep with the spirit of “flux” to create work that is shaped by both the limitations and the demands of the times.

Le Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) a le plaisir de présenter la cinquième itération de Jamaica Flux : Workspaces and Windows avec 14 artistes et groupes d’artistes basés à New York et sélectionnés pour cette initiative d’un an.
Jamaica Flux 2021 explorera l’interconnexion de l’histoire, du développement économique, de l’héritage culturel et de la diversité de la Jamaïque afin de conceptualiser des projets actuels et socialement engagés. L’exposition rassemblera des artistes, des conservateurs, des universitaires, des résidents locaux, des dirigeants communautaires, des promoteurs et des politiciens afin de s’appuyer sur l’héritage culturel du sud-est du Queens et de catalyser le pouvoir de transformation des arts visuels, en générant des réponses créatives aux anxiétés et aux tensions de notre époque. En raison de la pandémie de COVID-19, le JCAL conservera l’esprit de “flux” pour créer des œuvres façonnées à la fois par les limites et les exigences de l’époque.
